Lesson 2: Linear Equations
Overview: The students will be introduced to the idea of linear equations. The students will receive a lecture from the teacher that provides them with the procedural knowledge necessary for creating and graphing linear equations. During the activity (“Save the Zogs”), the students will be able to apply their knowledge of linear equations and explore the effects of the equation y=mx+b. The handout accompanying the “Save the Zogs” game is intended to keep the focus on the relationships between the points (i.e. Zogs) and away from a reliance on memorized procedures. This focus on the relationship between variables will continue into the Power Tower Activity, where students will get the chance to discover a linear relationship in the real world.
